Patrons with Library Cards

In order to measure the growth and pattern of library patrons with library cards over time, the base number of patrons on a given start date will be determined.

The number of cards issued after this date are tracked and reported quarterly for all patrons and by age group such as: age 0 to 14, age 15 to 17, age 18 to 64, and age 65 and up.

Statistics are reported in tabular and map format for all patrons and by age group:

  • The number of total patrons by census tract (census tract with large land are naturally contain more people. In order to normalize this condition, patron density or the number of patrons per square mile of tract area are also mapped).
  • The number of new patrons by census tract for the quarter.
  • The number of new patrons by census tract year to date.
  • Concentration of patron home address locations.
The statistics are also normalized by census tract as follows:
  • Patrons as a percent of the current estimated population.
  • Quarterly share of new patrons by census tract (shows which tracts have the highest share of new patrons for the month).
  • Percent increase in new patrons by census tract year to date (shows which tracts have the largest gains in new patrons year to date).
